Obviously Demon's Souls is a decade old now, so I imagine the newer iterations are much better balanced and largely free of the bad design and glitches that made Demon's Souls so annoying. My gaming time is very limited these days and I didn't fancy spending it getting angry because I just got unfairly killed and lost all my stuff for the fifth time in an hour. The experience soured me from trying anything else in that vein. Most of the time when I died it felt like the game was deliberately being cheap and unfair, and I often died due to weird glitches and clipping issues rather than any proper game mechanic. It didn't take me that long to decide I absolutely did not like it. My only prior Souls experience was Demon's Souls on the PS3, which I borrowed from a friend about 8-9 years ago. I was even more surprised to find I actually enjoyed it rather a lot.

I went into The Surge without much prior knowledge, and was mildly surprised to find it was a Souls style game.
